Persevering through difficult times is something that some of us may look at and want to run the other way or give up on completely. I had a moment, about a year ago, that I took a step back from some things that I was facing instead of persevering through it. During that time, God revealed to me some things that has built my character. Which then has helped me to persevere through the struggle I was dealing with.
Paul wrote this Scripture in Romans 5:3-5 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us (NIV).
Faith gives us hope that makes us want to persevere through things in life. I put my faith in God and trust Him that I will make it through because I am hopeful that God can bring me through it. And while we may be enduring a hardship, God is building our character and that can include making us stronger, growing our faith or teaching us something important.
Keep persevering! You never know what is on the other side of what you are persevering through. Persevere through that workout. Persevere through that schooling. Persevere through that thing God asked you to do. Do not give up at the site of a hardship or at the site of an impossibility just because you are experiencing a difficult time. Allow God to work on your character and continue teaching you through what you are experiencing. He genuinely loves us more than we can ever imagine, and that creates hope as a Christian.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for building my character while I go through the tough stuff in this world. It gives me a great hope that with You all things are possible! And when the next storm comes, You have made me that much stronger! I pray that I will keep my eyes focused on You to continue to persevere through the next mountain that comes my way. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
