Living by Faith, Not by Sight

After reading the book of Esther, I could definitely see signs of them living by faith as I journeyed through the book even though God's name is not mentioned. You can tell they were living by faith and not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight (NIV).

Esther had to live by faith as she fasted for three days before being brave and going to the king to ask him not to kill the Jews. It doesn’t say, but I would imagine she was scared as she could have been persecuted. God’s hand was on her life as she stepped out of her comfort zone to help save the Jews lives by going to the king.

Sounds familiar as we take a step into the unknown with God outside our comfort zone. We don’t know what is going to happen, but we know who God is as He calls us to step out. We may have so many questions for God and feel so many different feelings when we are asked to do something. And it may not look possible from our current view point, but that is why we are living by faith, not by sight.

Reading it without the mention of God, encourages me to see God through the story of their life. Does my life look like that from someone else’s perspective – for them to see me living by faith and God moving among my life even if they can’t hear me say, “God did this in my life.” Can they see something different about my life? That difference comes from living by faith. For me, there is sometimes this fear involved when I take that step. I don’t always take a step out with confidence. I’ll hesitate, or wait to do it, even procrastinate on it, or like my baby girl - take baby steps. But it takes living by faith to go!

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed (John 20:29).

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are with me as I try to live by faith in obedience to Your Word. May Your peace cover me as I live by faith. In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
