Laying It Aside

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God (ESV).

I started off 2023 with this verse, and found it so fitting for beginning a new year, because so often I carry things like fear and worries and things that hinder, distract or keep me from running with endurance the race that is set out in front of me.

I have really stopped and thought about this verse quite often, asking God to help me lay aside those things that seem to cling to me and keep me from enduring through with faith. If I lay them aside today, keeping my focus on Jesus knowing that my faith in Him gives me hope, what would this year look like?

With God it is possible to lay aside any weight or sin and continue to endure forward. I am so thankful for His grace and mercy.

Jesus is the founder and perfecter of our faith. He helps us to to grow, learn and leads us to becoming more and more like Him. He endured through for you and I and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36).

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being the founder and perfecter of my faith. Help me to lay aside the weight and sin that hinders me from running with endurance the race that You have set before me. In Jesus' Name I Pray, Amen.
