My daughter will ask me all the time to turn around and look at something she is doing while we are driving. We are constantly telling her that we are driving and need to keep our eyes on the road, because it could cause us to crash if we take our eyes off of what is in front of us to look back.
When she started asking me this in the car yesterday, it got me thinking about following Jesus and how Jesus doesn't want us to look back, but keep our eyes looking forward at what is in front of us. Jesus is always moving us forward in life, He is always working for our good.
Jesus says in Luke 9:16 Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
We can find ourselves reliving some old habits, some old ways and just at a standstill in our current life wondering why things are not getting better in our situation, why things are not changing for the good. And one of those reasons is God is trying to move us forward. We may just be stuck in our past. He is at work in our life and doesn’t want us to look back giving up on the work that He is doing in our life and where he wants to take us on this journey in life.
Following Jesus is saying, “I am all in and not looking back! My eyes are fixed in front of me with You Jesus!”
Whatever Jesus is doing in your life, do not look back, keep moving forward excited about the kingdom of God and the work He is doing! It will all be worth it! Do not look back at what you use to be or try to relive the old you. Plants do not grow backwards but we can kill them if we do not water the seed that we planted and allow it to grow.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are always moving us forward in life, wanting us to grow as a believer and a follower of You. I pray that I will keep my eyes on the road out in front of me and keep moving forward with You. In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
